Why I Write: For Power, For Peace, For the Plot Twist
Words shape how we see the world — and how we survive it.
They are both the mirror and the map, and for me, they’ve been a lifeline.
I write for power.
Because there’s nothing more disorienting than feeling powerless. When a political transition erased my job — and the jobs of so many others — it left me spiraling. I baked a lot. I worried even more. I lay in bed some mornings staring up at the ceiling, wondering how to begin again… again.
Eventually, I realized what I needed wasn’t just a job or a plan. I needed a way to root myself. I needed to rebuild something sturdy from the inside out.
That has always meant writing.
Writing is how I returned to myself — and how I began building something new. It’s where I remember my voice and how I reclaim my story. My writing place is where I plant the seeds for whatever’s next.
I write for peace.
Because even on the best days, my mind is a wonderfully chaotic place.
It carries courtroom logic, campaign one-liners, half-written poems, sharp comebacks, and softer truths I haven’t said aloud yet. It’s a place where brilliance and noise coexist.
But, when I write, I can quiet the world long enough to actually listen. I can name what hurts, honor what’s healing, and choose what stays.
Writing makes space for the questions I’m still pondering.
It’s not a perfect science — but it is a sacred practice. It brings me back to center every. single. time.
I write for the plot twist.
Because this life — messy, magical, unpredictable — is far from linear.
I’ve pivoted, leapt, landed, fallen, flourished, and started over more times than I can count.
Attorney. Strategist. Nonprofit leader. White House team member. Now, founder of my own storytelling and messaging space.
Every chapter has taught me something. Every detour sharpened my voice, and I am blessed to write the next one — with intention and a touch of magic!
That’s why I created The Bloom Room.
The Bloom Room is a place to reflect on reinvention and to celebrate creativity, courage, and clarity (and sometimes the lack thereof!) I am also christening this little corner with the intent to remind you (and myself) that your (and my) next page is still ours to write.
Nature doesn’t rush, yet everything blooms and sprouts at an appointed time — a reminder I carry with me on every creative detour and comeback.
If you write for power, for peace, or for the plot twist — you’re in the right place.
I am honored to welcome you to Quill and Bloom.
Whether you’re blooming again or just planting a few creative seeds, I’m glad you’re here. 🌸
With ink & intention,
